Keeping the Calm

Have you ever noticed you feel relaxed the instant you walk through our door? It’s not just the massage service that lulls your body into a happy state, the environment around you plays a role in your mood as well. How would you like to replicate that soothing feeling in your office? There are a few simple changes you can make to turn your office, or cubicle, into a more relaxing place. With a few changes, you’ll feel more comfortable (and maybe more productive) in your own workspace.

Add live plants.

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, you can find some pretty hardy plants for the office. Tall plants and hanging baskets are best. They’re not only eye-catching, but they also create a sense of comfort. If you’re limited on a space, a small potted plant will do.

Go for soothing colors.

When decorating, pick elements with soft colors. Blue is a great color; many people associate it with clear blue skies. Pale yellow is another option as it reminds people of sunny days.

Consider a water feature.

The boss might have a problem with you installing a three-foot water fountain in your office, but there are desk-sized options available. Studies show the sound of water falling keeps stress levels low. Consider adding a small fountain to your office. If you’re fortunate enough to have a sitting area in your office, you can always put the water feature in that area to welcome new guests.
