Swimmers Take Note!

If you're diving into the pool on a regular basis, you're building muscle tone and strength fast. Swimming is a great exercise to tone the body, but it takes a lot of energy to propel your body through the water. Swimmers need a carb-rich diet to keep energy levels up. Check out these tips to keep your body ready for the water:

Eat your fruits and veggies

The benefits of fruits and vegetables are endless. Aside from offering weight control, they are high in vitamins, which provide energy.

Be sure to eat lean meats

To rebuild strength in your muscles, add a cut of lean meat to your diet.

Eat before you swim

Ideally, you'll want to eat at least two hours before you swim to give the food time to digest and avoid cramps.

Plan three meals and three snacks

If you eat small meals and add several healthy snacks to your diet, you'll be ready to hit the pool.

Eat a refueling snack

After you swim, you'll want to get some carbs and protein into your body. During this time your body is taking inventory of sore muscles and low energy reserves. Have a protein shake or some fruit to help your body recover from the swim.
